I am primarily a hand builder. I enjoy the process of creating organic shapes but I also throw functional stoneware mugs, tankards, bowls and cups. Figuring out the puzzle of how to make something survive until it's hardened or bisaued is a challenge I enjoy.
My work primarily consists of individually crafted pieces that are more sculptural than mechanically produced items, but I want them to be functional and useful as well. I am always trying new techniques and pushing clay as far as I can make it go. Oops is a word I use often.
Inspiration often comes to me from time spent in the woods or new environments. I am also inspired by weathering processes, architecture & textiles. Deep sea and space exploration and a love of geology are also influential on my work. And I love funghi and unearthly looking plants.
